As part of the 50th anniversary events of Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMÜ), a program was organized to commemorate Ord. Prof. Dr. Ali Fuad Başgil. The event took place at the Mustafa Kemal Güneşdoğdu Campus, with contributions from the student societies within OMÜ Ali Fuad Başgil Faculty of Law and the Çarşamba Municipality.
During the program, Başgil’s significant role in the history of law and politics was highlighted. Student Society President Kaan Göktuğ Akyüz emphasized their aim to pass Başgil’s legacy on to future generations. Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Hasan Tahsin Keçeligil shared insights into Başgil’s academic and political life.
Speaker Prof. Dr. Ahmet Emre Ateş discussed Başgil’s liberal-conservative ideas and works, particularly referencing his books Religion and Secularism in Turkey and One-on-One with the Youth, while also underscoring his contributions to civil society activities.
The event was attended by academics, political representatives, and students. It concluded with the presentation of appreciation plaques and the gifting of a book detailing Başgil’s life.
